Mark Zuckerberg Named Time Magazine Person Of The Year

MARK ZUCKERBERG, the founder of social networking website 'Facebook' and the world's youngest self-made billionaire, has been named Time Magazine's 'Person of the Year'. The 26-year-old's rise to fame was adapted into a recent Hollywood movie, 'The Social Network', starring Jesse Eisenberg. Zuckerberg edged out runner-up JULIAN ASSANGE, the creator of whistleblowing site 'WikiLeaks', who is currently being held at a London prison after being accused of sexual harassment.

Time Magazine note that the award has never been intended as an 'honour', and point out that previous recipients of the title have included dictators Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, as well as the disgraced US President RICHARD NIXON. On announcing the 26-year-old as this year's 'Person of the Year', the magazine said, "In less than seven years, Zuckerberg wired together a twelfth of humanity in a single network", adding, "We have entered the Facebook age and Mark Zuckerberg is the man who brought us here".

'Time' also announced its annual list of 'People Who Mattered', which this year featured Justin Bieber, Sandra Bullock, Lady GaGa and the cast of Glee. Talk show host Conan O Brien, and controversial rapper Kanye West also made the list.
