Mark Ronson Produces 'Eerie' Album

Mark Ronson wanted to make an album with Black Lips because they both like "spooky, eerie and ghostly" sounds.

The producer - who has recently worked with Duran Duran and Boy George, as well as releasing his third solo album last year - agreed to work with the US garage rock band because they have a shared interest in vintage production.

Mark explained: "They certainly know all their garage and 60s rock stuff better than I do, but I love all that stuff, so there is like a shared aesthetic, so we're both like we want it to sound spooky and warbly and eerie and ghostly."

The band wanted to record with Mark after hearing his production on Amy Winehouse's 2006 album 'Back to Black', but at first he was a little wary because they had never worked with a producer on their previous five albums.

He added: "I'm always nervous the first day going in before a new project, especially with a band, when you're going into a situation where you take a really close knit unit, who have been together for years and are like a gang."

Black Lips - which features Cole Alexander, Jared Swilley, Ian Saint Pe and Joe Bradley - said they were also wary about working with a producer for the first time.

Ian Saint Pe said: "We never really wanted to use a producer, we always just had a engineer that just pressed record. When we were thinking about people we wanted to work with that Amy Winehouse record sounded really dope, and Mark just seemed to understand the Old School way of recording, we definitely invited him over because of his old school production values."
