Marilyn Monroe's Wedding Ring To Hit The Auction Block With Garland's Ruby Slippers
The ruby slippers Judy Garland wore in The Wizard of Oz were expected to be the highlight of the Icons of Hollywood sale, but now auctioneers at Profiles in History have another major lot for their upcoming Los Angeles event.
The platinum eternity band, set with 35 baguette-cut diamonds, that Joe DiMaggio gave to Monroe on their wedding day in 1954 is expected to sell for upwards of $300,000 (£187,500), but it could fetch much more - the actress' iconic The Seven Year Itch white dress shattered records when it went under the hammer for over $5.5 million (£3.4 million) at a Profiles in History auction earlier this year (11).
Also up for auction is an original painting by Earl Moran of a young and nude Monroe in a prone pose from a modelling session in the late 1940s.
Monroe was a big fan of Moran's work and reportedly once told the artist she loved the way he made her legs look wonderful.
The painting is expected to fetch between $70,000 (£43,750) and $90,000 (£56,250).
But it's clear Garland's ruby slippers will be among the high-priced items going under the hammer - they are expected to fetch as much as $3 million (£1.9 million) at the auction.
