Mariah Carey 's 'Triumphant' video has been well timed to tie-in with the Olympic fever that's been sweeping the globe over the last few weeks. The video switches between monochrome and gold hues and features Mariah Carey, Rick Ross, Meek Mill and DJ Khaled, all playing their part in a boxing match. For the first two-thirds of the video, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Carey is merely a bit-part in her own video, as she lets the rappers take the reins for the first couple of verses. She lets loose at the end though, showing off her flawless vocals, warbling what sounds like a motivational speech, transformed into a slick vocal.
The single was released in three separate formats earlier this month and Carey's manager Randy Jackson was keen to remind Billboard magazine that the pop diva has had a lot of hits on the dance charts, in the past, hence releasing the track as a 'vintage throwback' remix and a 'pulse club' remix, as well as the version that you see in the lavish video. The timing of the single release comes at an opportune moment for Carey, as she's due to take her seat on the American Idol judging panel, thrusting herself back into the public eye after she took time out to have twins last year, with partner Nick Cannon.
It looks as though Carey could be joined by Nicki Minaj on American Idol. Stories began to surface in the media earlier this week that the 'Starships' singer was a dead cert to take a role on the show, next to Carey.
