Marc Jacobs' 'Fashion Stimulation'

Marc Jacobs needs "stimulation" to be a successful.

The fashion designer - who is creative designer for French luxury label Louis Vuitton - admitted he finds it difficult to create pieces from just a "blank piece of paper", and so he seeks inspiration from various facets of his life.

He explained: "I'm terrible with a bank piece of paper. But give me a red piece of paper and I would say that would be nice with a black line through the centre.

"It is the only way I know how to work, and I encourage my team to tell me what they are thinking, what they are loving - a book, a film, people - I require stimulation to function."

However, the 47-year-old star admitted he doesn't always find beauty in conventional things.

He added to Britain's Vogue magazine: "A brick wall can be beautiful, so can a forest of trees. There are no rules - it's about the time and where you are in terms of recognition."

Marc - who began working for Louis Vuitton in 1997 - recently explained he will only put his name to ventures where he is confident of the quality of the creations.

He said: "As long as we do things with integrity and believe in them and are passionate, I don't think we've sold out. Whether it's an $11 flip-flop or a $2 key ring or a $2,000 dress, they're all done with integrity.

"As long as the creativity exists, then I don't think it's a sell-out. A sell-out is putting your name on any piece of crap and then expecting people to buy it because it's got your name on it."
