Manic Street Preachers Make Coastal Return

Manic Street Preachers performed in Southend for the first time in 17 years last night (20.10.10).

The Welsh rockers were thrilled to be back in the English seaside resort, and thanked the audience for being as enthusiastic as they were when they first played there in 1993.

Recalling their previous performance, bassist Nicky Wire reminisced to singer James Dean Bradfield: "I went into the town centre and bought a floral dress. You couldn't stop checking me out - then you realised it was me."

The group interspersed a career-spanning greatest hits set with a selection of songs from their latest album, 'Postcards From A Young Man', including the title track, current single '(It's Not War) Just The End Of Love' and next release 'Some Kind Of Nothingness'.

As well as crowd favourites including 'Tsunami' and 'Motorcycle Emptiness', The 'Design For Life' hitmakers also treated fans to some less-frequently performed tracks from their extensive back catalogue, including 1992 charity single 'Theme From MASH (Suicide Is Painless) and an acoustic version of 1997 track 'Ready For Drowning'.

Manic Street Preachers' UK tour continues until the end of this month.
