Manic Street Preachers announce UK return

Manic Street Preachers have announced their first UK show in almost two years.

The 'A Design for Life' band will play a one-off exclusive performance at Festival No.6, breaking their two- year exile from the British music scene.

The Welsh band said: ''Festival No.6 is the only thing that could break our self-enforced two year British gig ban. To be able to play in Sir Clough William-Ellis' iconic village is something of a dream for us. See you in September.''

The music bill festival - which was recently named Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards and Best Small Festival at the NME Awards - will take place in Portmeirion, North Wales, the filming location of cult 60's TV show 'The Prisoner' and the location where the band shot the album cover for 'This is My Truth Tell Me Yours' in 1998.

The band's headlining performance will mark the 15th Anniversary of the album's release, which contributed to the band's decision to play this year.

Festival No.6 has also confirmed a number of other artists who will perform over the weekend, including AlunaGeorge, James Blake, Everything Everything, I Am Kloot, Laura Mvula, Mount Kimbie, Caitlin Rose and Chapel Club.

DJs line up to spin over the course of the event - which takes place on September 13 to 15 - include Frankie Knuckles, Carl Craig, Andrew Weatherall, Giles Peterson and Justin Robertson.

Co-founder of the festival, Gareth Cooper said: ''We're delighted and very proud that we've managed to entice one of the biggest Welsh bands of all time to end their hiatus and play Festival No.6. There's a wonderful synchronicty in the fact that this year's event falls on the 15th anniversary of one of the Manics' greatest albums, 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours'.

''The cover of that record was shot on the beach at Portmeiron, which makes it all the more special. We feel it's important to maintain Welsh heritage within our line up and entertainment and there is no bigger way to do it than by booking this band!''
