Stone Roses bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield is furious at new reports the band is planning to reunite after meeting up at his mother's funeral, insisting his grief has been "hijacked".
Gossips and music journalists were sent into a spin on Thursday (07Apr11) following reports the Fools Gold hitmakers were in reunion talks after former frontman Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire reconciled at the wake for Mounfield's mum last month (Mar11).
A representative for the star insisted the rumours were untrue, and now the bass player has spoken out to deny they are planning a comeback - and he's blasted the rumours for intruding on his private grief.
He tells NME.com, "I'm disgusted that my personal grief has been invaded and hijacked by these nonsensical stories. Two old friends meeting up after 15 years to pay their respects to my mother does not constitute the reformation of The Stone Roses. Please f**k off and leave it alone. It isn't true and isn't happening."
The Stone Roses split in 1996 after a series of bust-ups between Brown and Squire.
