Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom has set a record in South Africa with a $73,747 (Gbp49,164) opening on a non-holiday weekend.
The film premiered on Thursday (28Nov13) and many fans reportedly took the day off work to see the movie.
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom chronicles the life story of South African leader Nelson Mandela from childhood to his inauguration as the country's first democratically elected president.
The movie, which stars Idris Elba, opened in the U.S. on Friday (29Nov13).
The video also features an appearance from model Tyson Beckford and ‘Empire’ star Jussie Smollett.
