Malcolm X - Malcolm X's Daughter Handed Probation For Identity Theft
Civil rights leader Malcolm X's daughter has been sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to identity theft.
Malikah Shabazz was accused of defrauding the 70-year-old widow of one of her late father's bodyguards to make more than $55,000 (£34,375) in illegal credit card purchases.
In June (11) the 46 year old pleaded guilty to identity theft at New York's Queens Supreme Court and was ordered to repay almost $56,000 (£35,000) to credit card companies she defrauded using Khaula Bakr's identity.
On Thursday (28Jul11) Justice Fernando Camacho sentenced Shabazz to five years probation.
District Attorney Richard Brown says in a statement, "The defendant, who preyed upon the trusting nature of a once close family friend, has admitted her guilt in committing a serious felony offence and will be ordered to make her victims financially whole."
