Madonna's Malawi School Site To Become Burial Ground
The pop superstar, who has adopted two children from Malawi, had planned to construct an academy for girls on the site in Chinkhota and even attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony there in 2009.
However, the plans were abandoned last year (11) after Madonna's Raising Malawi charity fell into crisis amid allegations of financial problems.
Government officials in Malawi have now confirmed the site will be turned into a burial ground for important figures.
Tourism Minister Daniel Liwimbi tells British newspaper The Guardian, "It was a cabinet decision to construct the heroes' acre at this site... Malawians deemed to have done a heroic endeavour of national importance, and selected by committee, which will scrutinise whatever they did, will be buried there."
Earlier this year (12), Madonna announced plans to continue her dream of providing education facilities for children in the country by teaming with non-profit group buildOn to build up 10 schools instead.
