Madonna Wows Wembley Crowd

Madonna performed to a star-studded audience on the London leg of her Sticky + Sweet world tour on Thursday (11Sep08) - with Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson and Penelope Cruz all watching from the crowd.

The 50-year-old took to the stage at Wembley Stadium for her only gig in England and delighted the celebrity group - which also included Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas - with energetic dance routines that belied her age.

Madonna wowed the 90,000-strong audience by performing 22 of her hit songs, including classics Into The Groove, Vogue and Like A Prayer.

However, some of the spectators were left disappointed when sound problems made it difficult to hear the Material Girl's vocals.

Voicing their frustrations on an internet message board, one gig-goer said, "The sound was absolutely shocking. The speakers must have blown. You couldn't even hear Madonna. I've never seen so many people complaining outside the concert."

The tour concludes in Sao Paulo, Brazil on 21 December (08).

I have wanted to see Madonna for well over 18 years now, not being the richest of people I saved up, and managed to buy 2 'cheap seats' we were in block 514 behind the big screens in Wembley. I agree the sound was not what I thought it would be, however, what an amazing performance from the most amazing entertainer! We had a terrific view, dead opposite the stage, and the 50 year old Madonna put me (35yrs) to shame, no way could I be as energetic as she was throughout the evening. I so feel for those who were unable to see, and the sound was a huge problem. I didn't opt for public transport, but booked parking - more expensive and a pain to get out, but at least I was home before light. Madonna, u are a true star, such a shame ur sound technicians let you down...

This show was truly appalling. The sound where I was sitting was diabolical, the video screens were completely inadequate and the show was rather clumsy. George michael put on a superb show at this venue last Summer and Kylie gave us a far superior offerring at The O2 earlier this year. To cap it all, the late start (why??? we all managed to get there on time) meant I, along with many others, couldn't get home easily. The fans were totally taken for granted and I certainly won't be investing any more of my time or money on Mrs Ritchie's products.

Brilliant show. No sound problems from front left-hand side. Madonna thrilled and the crowd were loving every moment of the show. It seemed to last for 2 minutes, not 2 hours! I especially loved the effect of the cylindrical screen, especially effective during 'Devil'... How amusing though that the BBC news website again mis-reports the show. First Madonna dedicated Like a Virgin to the Pope in Rome... A song not on the setlist... And then she performed Papa Don't Preach at Wembley according to the BBC news page... Funny, it must have been the shortest performance of the night! I heard no complaints from the ecstatic audience, I heard nothing but praise from everyone.
