Madonna - Madonna Pokes Fun At Flower Outburst
Pop superstar Madonna has laughed off the fuss surrounding her snub of a bouquet of hydrangeas at Italy's Venice Film Festival last week (ends09Sep11) by mocking the incident in a spoof video.
The Material Girl hitmaker was handed the flowers by a male fan during a press conference for her directorial effort, royal period drama W.E., but then was overheard expressing her distaste of the bloom.
Placing them under the table, she remarked to an assistant, "I absolutely loathe hydrangeas. He obviously doesn't know that."
Her publicist subsequently addressed the controversy by issuing a brief statement defending her right to "like any flower she wants", and now Madonna has poked fun at the situation online.
She has filmed a 46-second video in the style of an old black-and-white silent movie, in which she is seen cradling a bunch of hydrangeas and apologising profusely for "hurting" the flowers' feelings.
But Madonna's words of sorrow are insincere - by the end of the clip, she reaffirms her hatred for the flowers as she stomps all over the bouquet.
As she acts out the scene, the subtitles read: "You have no idea how many nights I have lost thinking how I hurt you. Words cannot express how sorry I am. To think I may have caused you pain. My heart is going to burst with sadness. I need to know in time you may forgive me. If I could take back my words I would but I can't so what am I left with?
"I'm left with the fact I still hate hydrangeas! And I will always hate them! It's a free country! So f**k you, I like roses!!"
Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, posted a link to the video on his Twitter.com page on Monday (12Sep11).
