Madonna - Madonna Axed Australia Tour Plans For Children
Madonna has apologised to her Australian fans for calling off plans to tour Down Under, insisting she pulled out of the dates for the sake of her children.
The pop superstar had provisionally booked to take her Mdna shows to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane next year (13), but it was revealed last month (Jul12) she would not be going ahead with the shows, which would have been her first in the region since 1993.
Madonna has now opened up about the reasons for her decision, admitting she wants to focus on her four children's wellbeing and spend time with her 15-year-old daughter Lourdes before the teenager leaves home.
In a recorded message for fans on her website, Madonna says, "I just want to say to all of my Australian fans I am really and truly sorry to have disappointed you. That's something that I don't feel very good about. I know the last time I was on tour I missed Australia as well. I can promise you in my heart of hearts it was my intention to come again, but like the last time my children are my first priority.
"I have two scales that I have to weigh in front me of me, my job as a singer and entertainer and my job as a mother. Because my children are older I can't take them on the road with me everywhere... at the end of the year I really feel that I would be an irresponsible parent if I didn't stop my tour and spend time with them... It was a really hard decision for me to make and I feel really bad because I dont take your support and your love for me for granted.
"I know a lot of you are angry with me, upset with me, disappointed. I did everything I could, I thought long and hard about it, I decided the best thing for me to do would be to end my seven months on the road at the end of the year and not continue on with my tour so I could spend time with my children who need me... I hope that you can understand and forgive me."
Madonna's tour will now end in Argentina on 22 December (12).
