Madonna - Madonna Appeases Critics By Dropping Swastika Image
Madonna cooked up a storm when she was last in France on her worldwide Mdna tour earlier this year, when her performance featured a video of ultra-right National Front party leader Marine Le Pen with a swastika superimposed over the footage. After countless appeals to the singer, it looks as though she has finally caved and decided to alter the segment of her show.
Following the initial showing of the image, Madonna looked as though she could be on the defending end of a legal battle, with the party looking to sue Madge for the negative connotations associated with linking Le Pen to the Nazi symbol. However this looks to have been avoided now as the Queen of Pop has since altered the image and during Tuesday's (August 21st) performance in the city of Nice she dropped the swastika and instead projected a question mark on Le Pen's forehead. The montage accompanies the song 'Nobody Knows Me', and features the faces of various political leaders along with a smorgasbord of religious insignia, dollar signs and other symbols imposed onto their face and body. The original edit featured an image of Le Pen overlaid with a swastika, eventually followed by an image of Adolf Hitler. The image enraged members of the right wing party, regardless of the fact that Le Pen's father, former National Front leader Jean-Marie Le Pen, has been found guilty of inciting racial hatred and of playing down the Holocaust, on numerous occasions.
The show in Nice brought an end to Madonna's European leg of the Mdna tour, but she will be hitting up the States, starting with Philadelphia on August 28th.
