Madness To Play On Palace Roof For Jubilee

British ska act Madness will perform their 1980s hit Our House from the roof of Buckingham Palace in London as part of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee concert on Monday (04Jun12).

The Queen will host an evening concert featuring Sir Paul MCCartney, Sir Elton John and Stevie Wonder on a specially-constructed stage outside her London residence, but veterans Madness have landed a prime concert spot on the Palace roof, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Sir Cliff Richard, who is also among the performers, tells Sky News he's planning a very special medley for the gig: "When I was thinking about what I should do, we were given six minutes each and I thought, 'Ooh, I'm probably the only one here who can actually do six hits of mine from each of Her Majesty's six decades'. So that's what I'm going to do."

Take That frontman Gary Barlow has organised the pop music extravaganza and he was rewarded for all his hard work on Sunday (03Jun12) when his souvenir jubilee album Sing debuted at the top of the U.K. charts.

He'll perform the jubilee anthem he and Lord Lloyd Webber composed for the occasion, alongside his former Take That bandmate Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, boy band JLS and Sir Tom Jones, among others.

Opera star Alfie Boe, American soprano Renee Fleming and virtuoso pianist Lang Lang are also on the bill, while hosts for the evening include comedians Lenny Henry and Lee MACk.

More than 10,000 people won tickets to the show in a public ballot and attended a jubilee picnic in the Palace Garden ahead of the event.

The London concert will conclude with the Queen lighting the National Beacon - the last in a network of 4,000 lamps lit up across the U.K. to celebrate the jubilee.
