Lupe Fiasco 'Thoroughly Supports' Fan Petition For Album Release

Rapper LUPE FIASCO is overwhelmed by the support he's received from fans who have launched a petition lobbying his record label bosses to release his long-delayed album, LASERS.
The Superstar hitmaker completed work on the follow-up to The Cool last year (09), but the disc has been left in limbo after Atlantic Records executives pushed back its expected December 2009 release and the project has now been put on hold indefinitely.
Two infuriated fans recently created an online petition urging Atlantic bosses to deliver the disc, insisting devotees have been waiting for Lasers "for over a good year now".
On the petition, one of the creators, Richard Derrick Barker, fumes, "Enough is enough. We demand that you stop playing around and give us the album that we have been highly anticipating since the release of The Cool."
The campaign has received in excess of 9,000 signatures to date, and Fiasco is stunned by the determination of his devotees.
During a recent interview with the U.K.'s BBC 1Xtra DJ Semtex, he said, "You got kids calling up the record label. I feel great knowing that I have that kind of support. This is some straight, grassroots, Lupe Fiasco fans...
"I think it's a good look. I thoroughly support it. I'm definitely not backing away from that. I think it's beyond us now. I think it's beyond whatever situations that I got with the label and whatever situations they got with me or the music. The fans are speaking above both of us. Even for me, it's kind of a wake up, and I think for the (label) it's definitely a wake up."
But Fiasco refuses to attack Atlantic executives for holding back his work, insisting he's put their past troubles behind him in an effort to simply release the music for fans.
He added, "Even with all that, shout out to Atlantic Records, shout out to everybody behind the project. Ain't (sic) no love lost, no ill will. I think we just both looking at this now like it's serious."
