Lucy Liu - Lucy Liu To Play Watson In Sherlock Holmes Re-boot
Lucy Liu is set to join the cast of the forthcoming US version of Sherlock. In an unusual twist, Liu will play a female version of Sherlock's famed sidekick, Watson. Similarly to the recent Bbc series in the UK the new version of the Sherlock Holmes tale will be modernized but rather than being set in London, the American adaptation will be set in contemporary New York. It has already been announced that Jonny Lee Miller will play the lead role of Sherlock Holmes.
The Cbs re-boot of the book, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is reported to be entitled Elementary; a reference to the Sherlock Holmes catchphrase, "elementary, my dear Watson." According to the Bbc, a pilot is being filmed, with Lucy Liu cast as Joan Watson, Sherlock Holmes' trusty partner. If the pilot is successful, a full series is likely to be made, ready to be aired in the autumn. The pilot will be written by Robert Doherty, who also serves as executive producer, along with Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly. The UK series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, is scheduled to return for a third series.
Lucy Liu, aged 43, began acting in 1989. Her breakthrough role came in 1997, when the role of Ling Woo, in Ally Mcbeal, was created especially for her. She went on to star in Charlie's Angels, alongside Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz as well as Kill Bill, with UMA THURMAN.
