Luck - Luck Screenwriter Brings Back Drama Via Blog

20 February 2013

Characters from axed horseracing drama Luck have been brought back to life by the Tv show's screenwriter in a new blog.

The HBO series, starring Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte and Dennis Farina, was cancelled last year (12) amid complaints from animal rights activists at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) about the treatment of horses on set.

Three horses died during filming at California's Santa Anita racetrack.

But it appears the show is to have a second life thanks to writer John Perrotta's weekly blog on America's Best Racing website.

In his first installment, posted last week (14Feb13), Perrotta featured characters played by Kevin Dunn, Ian Hart, Ritchie Coster and Jason Gedrick on the show.

Upon learning about Luck's new life, Peta spokesperson Kathy Guillermo urged Perrotta to detail the dark side of horseracing in his weekly stories.

She told Wenn, "If the unlucky Luck storyline is to continue, at least it's through a blog, which is a far better idea, because no arthritic, drugged horses will actually breakdown and die on a track. We'd be happy to suggest some plot ideas based on fact, such as what happens when the thoroughbreds who don't win are discarded at auction and shipped to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico."
