Los Angeles Times Retracts P Diddy Allegations

by | 07 April 2008

The Los Angeles Times has retracted a story claiming the US rapper Sean 'P Diddy' Combs was involved in a 1994 shooting of fellow rapper Tupac Shakur.

Last week the American newspaper retracted its claims and issued an apology to Combs after it was discovered that the story was based on faked documents.

The story was first published on the paper's website and immediately led to Combs denying any involvement in the incident.

The rapper released a statement saying: "It is beyond ridiculous and completely false. Neither BIG [the late rapper Notorious BIG - real name Christopher Smalls] nor I had any knowledge of any attack before, during or after it happened.

"I am shocked that the Los Angeles Times would be so irresponsible as to publish such a baseless and completely untrue story."

In the retraction the newspaper said it wished to "correct that misimpression" Combs had been involved.

The Los Angeles Times originally published a story claiming Combs was in some way involved in the 1994 shooting of Tupac, claiming the report was based on FBI records.

However an investigation launched by the Smoking Gun website claimed the documents used in the article were in fact made up by a prison inmate.

On September 7th 1996, Tupac was shot four times in a separate drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.

The 25-year-old rapper died six days later at the University Medical Centre of Southern Nevada.
