Singer RICHARD LOPEZ has lost his battle with lung cancer. He was 65.
Lopez, an original member of vocal group Cannibal & the Headhunters, died on 30 July (10) at a hospital in Garden Grove, California.
Lopez formed the band with three fellow high school students when he was a teenager in the 1960s, and together the group went on to open for The Beatles when the Fab Four toured America in 1965.
The band's hits included 1965's Land of 1,000 Dances.
Lopez, also known as Frankie 'Cannibal' Garcia, quit before the band broke up in 1967. A reunion tour was staged in 1996.
