Lollapalooza 2012 Lineup: Red Hot Chili Peppers Top The Bill
Red Hot Chili Peppers have been announced as one of the headliners for this year's Lollapalooza Festival, which takes place in Chicago in August. The Californians have been together since the early 1980s and have survived numerous problems, such as drug addiction and the sudden departure of band members, to sustain a career as one of the world's most popular rock bands.
Black Sabbath will also be headlining one day of the festival, which takes place on August 3 - August 5, 2012 at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois. Despite Tony Iommi suffering from lymphoma, the veteran rockers are topping the bill, though they have cancelled a number of other live commitments. They will also headline Download festival in the UK. Lollapalooza also boasts Jack White, Florence And The Machine and the newly-reformed AT THE DRIVE-IN amongst its bigger names. Though its reputation is largely as a rock festival, there are a number of dance-orientated acts included on the bill as well, representing a growing recognition amongst festival bookers that their audiences are perhaps more open to variety than has been the case in the past. Calvin Harris, Justice and Skream & Benga will also be playing Lollapalooza 2012.
Lollapalooza began in 1991 and was the brainchild of JANE'S ADDICTION singer Perry Farrell. Its path has not been a smooth one, however. The festival encountered problems towards the end of the 1990s and was cancelled in 1998. In 2003, though, Lollapalooza experienced a rebirth and eventually settled as a static festival, rather than previous attempts to tour a more limited line-up.
