Lohan Film Leads Razzie Nomsby Contributor | 22 January 2008
Lindsay Lohan's I Know Who Killed Me has topped the list for this year's Razzie awards, which honour the worst films of the year.
The troubled starlet plays two possibly-linked characters in the thriller which received nine nominations, while Eddie Murphy's supposed comedy Norbit pulled in eight nods for the spoof awards.
While Murphy was Oscar-nominated for his turn in Bill Condon's Dreamgirls last year, his performances in Norbit - in which he plays three characters - are widely thought to have pushed him out of the running for an Academy award.
"We decided that each of his characters was so offensive that he deserved individual nominations," explained Razzies founder John Wilson.
As well as being nominated for worst picture, Norbit also resulted in five nominations for Murphy alone, more than any actor has received in a single year.
Lohan's performances were met with equal derision, receiving two worst actress nominations for her roles as an abducted small-town girl and her alter-ego stripper in I Know Who You Killed Me, garnering more votes than any actor since Sofia Coppola's laughable turn in The Godfather Part III.
"I Know Who Killed Me is the most fabulously brainless movie since Showgirls, which Razzie voters picked as the worst movie of the 1990s," Wilson added.
"By the end of it, you still don't know what happened. Are they twins or aren't they? Did she imagine it? Can I please have my hour and 50 minutes back?"
The four stars of Bratz shared a nomination for worst actress, while Diane Keaton's performance in Because I Said So saw her join their less-than-illustrious company in the same category, along with Jessica Alba, (for Awake, Good Luck Chuck and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) and Elisha Cuthbert (Captivity).
Joining Murphy in the worst actor category was Adam Sandler for I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Cuba Gooding Jr for Daddy Day Care, Jim Carrey for The Number 23 and Nicolas Cage for Ghost Rider.
Just as the nominations were announced the day before the Academy awards, so will the trophies be handed out on February 23rd, the day before the 80th Oscars ceremony.
