Liza Minnelli - Liza Minnelli Enjoying Single Life

Liza Minnelli loves being single.

The 64-year-old star - who was previously wed to cabaret performer Peter Allen, director Jack Haley, Jr. sculptor Mark Gero and concert promoter David Gest -has finally learned to accept being on her own and now loves not being tied down.

She said: "I don't have somebody telling me to 'Be quiet!' There's none of that in my life any more. It's just so wonderful not to be tied down. I've never been not dating or not with someone or not in love.

"I thought for a long time that unless you were with somebody you weren't accepted."

Liza insists she will never marry again but plans to have three men of various ages in her life instead.

She explained: "I intend to have a 17 year old whose name I don't know right? I intend to have a 35 year old who's an intellectual and marvellous to talk to.

"And I intend to also have a guy who's about 93 with one foot in the grave and one foot on a banana peel. What else can I say? There are some people who weren't meant to be married and it's very difficult for a female star."

Poor Liza Minnelli: Starlet Is Butt Of Oscars Jokes, Thanks To Ellen DeGeneres 4094369 News

Liza Minnelli didn't have exactly the best time at last night's Oscars. As one of Hollywood's biggest veteran stars, the actress didn't receive the respect that a performer of her calibre would deserve. From being the target of a mean zing from Ellen DeGeneres, to having her outfit mocked in the media and being laughed at for not being able to reach into the famous 'Oscars Selfie' in time, Liza could have had a nicer evening at home.

Liza Minnelli
Liza Minnelli Hasn't Been Treated So Kindly In The Wake Of The Oscars.

The glamorous awards evening started on the red carpet where Liza, the daughter of Judy Garland, debuted a striking new streak of blue in her black hair and wore a matching silky pantsuit with dramatic diamond jewellery. As the snaps of Minnelli hit the internet, commenters began to point out and mock the fact that the actress probably wasn't wearing a bra under her slinky suit.

Some likened her daring new hairdo to the likes of pop star Katy Perry, saying that looking at Liza could be like looking at Perry in forty years' time. Liza was attending the Academy Awards for the show's tribute to her late mother's The Wizard of Oz but the evening proved to be more hassle than it was worth.

Ellen Degeneres
Ellen DeGeneres Playfully Made Liza The Butt Of An Opening Speech Joke.

The 67 year-old was given another bashing my Oscars host and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres in her opening speech. The sunny and funny DeGeneres was picked to host this year to soothe the wound left by last year's host Seth Macfarlane who appalled many with his unfunny and bad-taste jokes. However, Liza was one of the few who received a nasty zing from the apparently well-meaning host.

"And I have to say one of the most amazing Liza Minnelli impersonators I have seen in my entire life," DeGeneres said to the audience's amusement. "Just really, seriously," the host added. "Good job, sir." The audience exploded into laughter, including Liza's companion but the Cabaret star squirmed and scowled uncomfortably in the face of such mockery.

The final blow came when Ellen assembled an almighty A-list crew for an impromptu selfie. Jared Leto, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt Angelina Jolie, Kevin Spacey, Lupita and Peter Nyong'o, Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum and Jennifer Lawrence all quickly bunched into the shot, which has been shared a record-breaking number of times on Twitter.

However, a photo taken by Wall Street Journal reporter Ben Fritz shows the group photo gathering from behind with one short star who couldn't quite get in the shot. The photo shows Liza scrambling to get into the photo but being obstructed by the taller stars. The original selfie crashed Twitter with over 1.2 million retweets within the first hour but the forlorn shot of Liza has also been shared by those keen to laugh at the singer and actress.

Liza Minnelli Braves Broken Wrist To Perform At NYC Cancer Benefit 3907001 News

Liza Minnelli bravely ignored the pain of a broken wrist to perform at New York City's famed Birdland jazz club to benefit The Actors Fund's Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative and Tower Cancer Research Foundation's Dr. Philomena McAndrew Fund.

The 67 year-old performer's rep told the Associated Press that Minnelli had broken her wrist in three places as she rehearsed for the show on Sunday night and that her doctor had advised the Academy Award winner not to perform. However, the cause was so close to Liza's heart that she felt she couldn't possibly back out when her half-sister Lorna Luft, who is battling breast cancer, had asked for a little help making the evening as special as possible.

"Nothing was going to stop me from coming here tonight," Minnelli said before taking the stage. "Lorna asked me to be here and I wouldn't let her down." The Cabaret star and her sibling, who are both Judy Garland's daughters, sang live together for the first time in 20 years since they duetted at the Tony Awards in 1993.

Soon after the performance, Minnelli reportedly returned to the hospital for her wrist to be treated but not until she'd made her mark on the benefit. They sang the medley they made famous at the Tony Awards and received a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd.

"This event means the world to me," Luft said tonight. "I'm so grateful to be feeling so well and performing again." The 60 year-old told in August of her approach towards her condition: "Your attitude has so much to do with your recovery, because it's really easy to curl up in a ball, and stay in bed," Luft said, via Fox News.

"The hard part is saying I'm not going to do this and I'm going to fight this, I'm going to make fun of it, and I'm going to laugh, I'm going to have a sense of humor. So when you are sick, and you really need that. It's amazing how your attitude really will lead to your recovery."

Ann-margret Feted At Broadway Gala 3902528 News

Veteran actress/singer Ann-Margret was the toast of Broadway on Tuesday (08Oct13) when she was handed a top prize from Liza Minnelli at a theatre and dance gala in New York.

The Bye Bye Birdie icon, 72, was the guest of honour at the Career Transition for Dancers' 28th Anniversary Jubilee and was presented with the Rolex Dance Award by last year's (12) winner, Minnelli.

Praising Ann-Margret, the Cabaret legend told the audience, "I remember seeing her in a movie with Elvis Presley (1964's Viva Las Vegas), and for the first time I was not looking at Elvis the entire time. I was looking at her!"

However, the Swedish-American star's big night at the New York City Center didn't get off to the smoothest of starts - she was reportedly trapped in an elevator for 10 minutes prior to the ceremony, before she was rescued, according to the New York Post.

'Three Cheers For Bossy Women' - Barbra Streisand's Film Career Toasted At Lincoln Centre 3623507 News

Last night (April 22, 2013), Barbra Streisand was the centre of attention at the Lincoln Center in New York. The 70 year old actress, singer, and filmmaker received the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s 40th annual Chaplin award, CBC News reports. Throughout the evening, tribute was paid to the star, with a variety of musical lumanaries taking to the stage to praise her work, or sending in video messages that were played to those gathered for the glitzy event.

“Ever since I can remember, people have been calling me bossy and opinionated," Streisand said, accepting the award. “Maybe that's because I am. Three cheers for bossy women!" she declared, sparking roars from the star-studded audience. Streisand has won Oscar awards, Tony awards and Emmys for various aspects of her work but last night was solely focused on the entirety of her show-business career. “Thank God I was given a good voice,” she joked.

Paying tribute to the star were the jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, along with singers Liza Minnelli and Tony Bennett. Her former movie co-stars, Omar Sharif, Blythe Danner, Ben Stiller and Robert Redford all chipped in with warm words about the actress. Even President Bill Clinton had a thing or two to say: “Every great person is driven," friend and former U.S. president Bill Clinton said onstage. But if that person has massive talent, big brains and a bigger heart, you want to go along for the ride."

Liza Minnelli Re-Visited Cabaret For Her 67th Birthday 3554726 News

Beloved actress Liza Minnelli celebrated her 67th in style.

The Broadway veteran didn’t just have a party like any old celebrity, she marked the occasion with a special one-off performance alongside another staple of the Big White Way, Alan Cumming. The pair performed a number of famous duets on Wednesday, before dashing off to celebrate elsewhere. The show, which was just the first of a pair of gigs at NY Town Hall, reprised Liza and Alan’s cabaret-like performance at a Fire Island nightclub last summer.

Of course, the infamous Cabaret was performed (making us musical theatre fans extremely jealous of the ticket holders) and the entire show turned into a Cabaret reunion of sorts. But this time, the roles were reversed, as Cumming took on Liza’s part in Mein Herr, which is one of the best-known numbers Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) performs in the original musical, while she herself sang the traditionally male Willkommen. Overall, the night was a lot of fun for both fans and performers. "We're just crazy about each other," Minnelli told Reuters after the show. "It felt very intimate, like being with a bunch of friends." After the intimate performance, Liza managed to out-party any of her younger colleagues, alongside a group of close friends at New York’s Copacabana.

Still Got It: Liza Minnelli Works Her Charm For '30s Inspired Set At Royal Festival Hall 3539669 News

Though she was visibly frail, Liza Minnelli still managed to charm her devoted audience at London’s South Bank, as part of their ‘The Rest Is Noise’ series of concerts; a year-long exploration of 20th century music. Representing 1930s Berlin (Minnelli, of course is still largely synonymous with the role of Sally Bowles in the musical Cabaret, set in the same era), Minnelli gave whatever energy she had to old favourites such as ‘Say Liza (Liza With A Z)’ and ‘New York New York.’ She may not have the stamina that she had as young performer but Minelli has retained every inch of her charm and allure.

The Financial Times review describes Minnelli as “breathless, reaching for a teacup of water, leaning on the piano for support rather than in seduction,” and explains that she took advantage of band leader Billy Stritch’s solo on ‘No Moon At All’ to take a much needed break from proceedings.

Liza Minnelli

It was the first time that Liza had appeared at the Royal Festival Hall since 1973 and although the cracks are starting to show in her performance, she was “still in amazingly good voice,” according to The Independent – who were equally impressed to witness her take on the Weimar era. Normally, standing ovations are reserved for the end of the show. Minnelli received one simply for stepping on to it and then several more throughout the evening. At 66, Minnelli still knows how to work an adoring crowd.

First Time In 40 Years: Liza Minnelli To Perform At Royal Festival Hall, London 3419853 News

Liza Minnelli is returning to London's Royal Festival Hall next year and frankly we can't contain our excitement much more.

The stage, screen and studio star will be performing at the Royal Festival Hall to celebrate the hit musical Cabaret next year, forty years after she last performed at the famed venue. Her last performance there came during the hugely successful 'Liza With A Z' tour and come March 2013 it will be as if she never left, as Minnelli will be performing many of the songs that she took with her all those years ago.

After the announcement of her upcoming performance, which will take place in March 2013 (an exact date is yet to be given), she told the press in an official statement, "I'm always so excited to perform in London, I have so many friends and fans there I consider it my second home. And to be returning to the Royal Festival Hall after all this time is thrilling." Liza's performance is part of the Southbank Centre's 'Berlin in the '20s and '30s' weekend, which will also include a screening of Cabaret, for which Minnelli won the Best Actress Oscar in 1973.

The film sees Minnelli star as a cabaret star in inter-war Berlin, when the Nazis are first beginning to ascend to power. The film went on to win another 7 Oscars at that year’s awards ceremony, with director Bob Fosse and supporting actor Joel Grey also being recognised alongside Minnelli.
