Lady GaGa turned up to her own perfume launch at Harrods over an hour later than scheduled on Sunday (October 7, 2012), leaving fans angry when she then failed to spend any time with them before entering the store. Gaga was at the iconic London department store to launch ‘Fame,’ her new fragrance which she has previously suggested would smell like “an expensive hooker.”
According to The Telegraph, Lady Gaga (or Mother Monster, to her devoted fans – her ‘Little Monsters’) was supposed to arrive at 7:30pm. Many fans had been camped out for hours, hoping to get a photograph with the ‘Born This Way’ singer, or perhaps an autograph from her. She did not show up until 8:45pm, though, when she rolled up in a horse and carriage, wearing a black dress. She then failed to walk all of the way down the specially laid-out black carpet and entered the store, where she held a tea party for 75 competition winners.
The irony of the situation was not lost on her more astute followers. Luke Reader of London, aged 18, said “It's quite ironic it's called Fame because it just shows how much fame has changed her… She couldn't even spend five minutes talking and having some pictures taken. It's not on." Another fan, who had waited for nine hours to see the pop sensation, said “I'm disappointed… I thought she'd stand there for a while, but we didn't see anything.” The Lady Gaga Twitter page has offered little in the way of apology, other than to say “Im overwhelmed by the thousands in London who came to @Harrods I only wish I could've taken pictures w each of u. Thanku so much for coming.” Although, Gaga has come under so much criticism lately – over her weight, for apparently smoking weed onstage – that she’s probably a little tired of having to defend herself.
