Lionel Richie - Lionel Richie's 'Tuskagee' Hits Top Spot On Billboard 200
Well now he really will be 'Dancing On The Ceiling,' if that's indeed possible. Lionel Richie will certainly be celebrating though after it was revealed by Billboard that his country-influenced new record 'Tuskagee' has confounded expectations and will reach top spot on the US Top 200. Incredible scenes. It's Richie's third chart-topper - and first since the gag-lending 'Dancing On The Ceiling' in 1986 - and is a remarkable achievement given that it actually debuted three weeks ago in second spot behind Madonna's 'Mdna,' shifting 199,000 copies.
Whereas the Queen of pop's sales have suffered hugely since that week - many pointing to the live ticket and album package she was offering to fans as a reason for its initial huge sales - Richie's have remained robust and, though dropping down to four in its second week, it's now hit top spot after shifting 129,000 copies. This is in no small part to a special Cbs televised concert appearance by Richie, taped at the Mgm Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 2nd 2012. The show last week attracted 7.7 million viewers according to Nielsen.
