Lion King Breaks Its Own New York Record
06 July 2006The show grossed over $1.2 million (GBP666,600) during the week ending 2 July (06), beating the Minskoff's record for both eight and nine-performance weeks.
The previous record was held by the same production during the show's opening week at the theatre, with a gross of $1.19 million (GBP661,100).
The phenomenon, which opened on Broadway, New York in 1997, has now been seen by an estimated 34 million people worldwide.
Productions are currently being staged in America, England, The Netherlands, Germany and Japan. The Lion King will open in China and South Korea later this summer (06).
