Lily Allen's mother was jealous when the singer became famous.

Alison Owen - who raised Lily and her brother Alfie alone after her marriage to actor Keith Allen broke down - insists she has always been proud of the 25-year-old star's musical success, but was concerned they wouldn't be as close as they always had been.

She told Grazia magazine: "I was extremely proud of what she had achieved, but I felt scared for her, protective of her, jealous other people had a part of her. It felt as if she wasn't mine so much any more."

Alison was left particularly concerned when she was Lily drunk and slurring her words - as well as arguing on stage with music legend Sir Elton John - at the GQ Awards in 2008.

She said: "I was worried because she had drunk too much and I don't want her to do anything she's going to feel bad about.

"That night got blown out of proportion, though. She's good friends with Elton, and they both thought it was funny."
