Prison-bound rapper [LIL WAYNE] has won three more weeks of freedom after a New York judge agreed to postpone his sentencing until after he completes a series of dental surgery procedures.
The Lollipop hitmaker, real name Dwayne Carter, Jr., was expected to be handed a one year jail term for weapons possession on Tuesday (09Feb10) - and many felt sure he'd start the sentence straight away.
He pleaded guilty to the charge in October (09) after striking a plea deal with prosecutors and returned to Manhattan state Supreme Court on Tuesday afternoon to be formally sentenced.
But Justice Charles Soloman agreed to delay the punishment after Wayne's lawyer, Stacey Richman, requested extra time so the rapper could go ahead with an operation on his teeth scheduled for Friday (12Feb10) - and have time to recover.
Richman claimed Wayne had planned to complete the surgery prior to Tuesday, but his dentist had been away from his office in Miami, Florida, where the star lives.
Soloman set his sentencing for 2 March (10) but warned it would not be pushed back any further.
Speaking after the brief hearing, Richman declined to specify the nature of her client's surgery, but said, "It is a medical situation that... has to be addressed."
