Lil Wayne Released From Prison
Rapper LIL WAYNE has been released from jail after serving eight months of a one-year sentence.
The hip-hop superstar has been locked up in New York's Rikers Island prison following his conviction on weapon possession charges stemming from 2007.
Officers at the prison stated the star's release date had been pushed back from Thursday (04Nov10) to Friday (05Nov10) because of him owing one day of "good time" due to breaking prison rules during his stint behind bars.
However, officials decided to free the rapper on Thursday morning as planned, TMZ.com has reported.
A New York Department of Corrections representative revealed that unlike other released inmates, Wayne was allowed to be taken away from the facility in a private vehicle because of his high profile.
The spokesperson tells EOnline.com, "He left according to standard procedures in (a) correction vehicle, but not with others. It's unusual in the sense that if you have a high profile inmate you have to transport him individually.
"It's a modification of our standard procedure. In this case different arrangements were made because of his extraordinarily high profile. He was dropped at an undisclosed location and met by his associates."
