Lil Wayne - Lil Wayne Steps On US Flag In Stomping Performance - Not The Good Kind [Video]
Uh-oh: Badboy rapper Lil Wayne is in Big trouble again after allegedly stepping on a fallen American flag. He now swears the innocence of his actions but critics - including the US Military - are up in arms.
Rapper Lil Wayne is feeling the heat of patriotic Americans' fury after a video began to circulate showing him filming the music video for new track 'God Bless Amerika' which involves a flag falling to the floor behind him and him dancing upon it.
Once the huge flag has fallen, a crowd of motionless people are revealed standing behind Wayne, in homage to his Afro-American roots growing up in tough districts of New Orleans.
Wayne's lower body would have probably been cut out of the shot in the finished video but a filming bystander captured the moment when the 30 year-old rap star began to dance and walk all over the flaggy heap on the floor.
In a story that has snowballed since TMZ.com first reported the incident, the rapper who suffers from regular seizures has received death threats, whilst his actions have been described as "disrespectful to the extreme" on Twitter.
He has even come under fire (not literally) from the US Military community with a host of soldiers, veterans and military families taking to Twitter to express their scorn. One wrote: "As a Veteran and Patriot, you're a disgrace to this great country" whilst John Raughter, a spokesman for the American Legion, expressed the importance of the US flag, explaining "it's entitled to the highest respect."
Wayne too took to social media to defend himself against the ill-wishing onslaught: "It was never my intention to desecrate the flag of the United States of America. I was shooting a video for a song off my album entitled 'God Bless Amerika'.
Decide For Yourself - Watch The Footage Now:
The song's lyrics may be controversial on their own ("My country 'tis of thee / Sweet land of kill 'em all and let 'em die / God bless Amerika / This ole' godless Amerika,") but it is Wayne's baseball boots shuffling all over the stars and stripes then has enraged the patriot masses.
Wayne, who served a year-long prison sentence for weapons possession, has also previously been arrested for drug possession and in June 2010 was sentenced to three years probation. The 'Lollipop' singer certainly has done bad things in the past but perhaps we should believe him when he says he meant no harm by this latest blunder. Had an onlooker not been filming, the flag-stomping incident would have never entered the media radar.
In an effort to avoid further controversy, Wayne has stated the clip will not be used in the final edit.
