Like Dallas , Arsenio Hall Will Return After 2 Decades

Fans of Arsenio Hall were no doubt shouting "Woof, woof, woof!" his audience's chant of approval 20 years ago, following news that his old syndication company is reviving his late-night talk show in the fall and has signed a deal with Tribune broadcasting to air it on its stations. In an announcement, John Nogawski, president of CBS TV Distribution (known as Paramount Domestic TV back in the day), noted that Hall succeeded in drawing younger viewers away from the established late-night shows when he hosted what was then regarded as a hip-to-the-max show between 1989-1994 (best remembered, perhaps, for the appearance of then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton, who performed "Heartbreak Hotel" on his sax). "Years ago, he transcended time periods and attracted a cross-over audience while bringing a fresh perspective to late night," Nogawski said. "That same need in the market exists today as when we originally launched." The difference, of course, is that Hall is in his 50s now and was in his 30s then -- although the years have obviously been much kinder to him than they have been to Larry Hagman, who has also returned to TV after a 20-year-hiatus.
