Tom Hooper - Les Miserables Reigns At U.k. Box Office
30 January 2013Tom Hooper's movie musical Les Miserables has seen off competition from Oscars rivals Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty to land a third week at the top of the U.K. box office.
The stage show adaptation, which stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, earned $6.4 million (£4 million) to retain first place and keep fellow Academy Award Best Picture contender Django Unchained in second, with takings of $3.8 million (£2.4 million).
Steven Spielberg's historical epic Lincoln debuted at number three with $2.6 million (£1.6 million), and Ang Lee's drama Life of Pi - another contender for the Oscars' top award - dropped a place to four after raking in $1.8 million (£1.1 million).
Kathryn Bigelow's war drama Zero Dark Thirty is another new entry, earning just over $1.6 million (£1 million) to round out the top five.
