Leona Lewis: My Version of 'We Found Love' Is Better Than Rihanna
Leona Lewis has told the Daily Star that she was the first to lend her vocals to "We Found Love" - the smash hit, penned by Calvin Harris and ultimately released with Rihanna's vocals. In the same interview, the 27-year-old X Factor winner was also quoted as saying:
"I didn't commit to it because I wanted Trouble to be my first single so I think that was another reason they went with Rihanna. It was the same version and production but mine's better."
The song became a smash hit after its release in September 2011, reaching the top chart spot in 25 countries and selling over 6.5 million copies.
Lewis has also stated that she still has the recording, but would never be so unprofessional as to leak it. She has stated that her version is better, but admits that it may not have done as well as Rihanna's rendition.
Despite this, the controversy around "We Found Love" is sure to raise some publicity around the release of Lewis's latest studio album, Glassheart, which went online yesterday. It's the third offering from the singer, following the success of Spirit and Echo, released in 2007 and 2009, respectively. The first single off Glassheart, Trouble, charted in the UK Top 10 last week. This sets a promising start for Leona's newest album, so maybe missing out on releasing "We Found Love" will not turn out to be a bad career move for the singer after all.
