Leno No. 1 In All Demos During May Sweeps

NBC's rationale in replacing Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon was to increase the number of younger viewers, early reports had said. How to explain, then, that Leno beat each of his rivals during the May sweeps by big margins, including his ratings in the key 18-49 and 18-34 age groups? According to Nielsen figures released over the weekend, Leno's Tonight show averaged 250,000 more viewers than ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live and 325,000 more than CBS's Late Show with David Letterman. Among total viewers, Leon averaged 3.5 million in May versus 2.8 million for Late Show and 2.5 million for Kimmel. Citing the sweeps figures, New York Post columnist Michael Starr commented: Question to NBC: are you sure you wanna replace Jay Leno? Leno is due to step down during the week leading up to the 2014 Winter Olympics which start February 6th. Jimmy Fallon is scheduled to replace him during the second week of the Sochi games.

Jim not Jimmy

NBC is replacing the most popular host in Late Night with someone who has a vastly different show and appeal. Some say that Leno is not young enough; or that his humor doesn,t have enough of a cutting edge to it. The reason that Leno leads in ratings and continues to grow in popularity; is that for most of us;" His" show has the best balance and is the most entertaining. I don,t care what happens to NBC; but Jay Leno will be sorely missed!
