Love the fact that Strummer/Jones made the top 3. Hate the fact that sell-outs like the Stones made the grade. Why not Plant/Page?My question is whether this was strictly a rock thing, or were all songwriting duos considered, and also whether it had to do with at least one of the duo being a performer. One of the great songwriting duos of all time are Burt Bacharach and Hal David, with thousands of remakes and seemingly hundreds of hits, including many classics like Alfie, A House is Not a Home, etc. Also I wondered about some of the Brill Building and Motown writers who are more obscure, but still wrote many of the world's classic songs.

Didn't see the poll-- were the Brothers Gibb included? If not, then they certainly SHOULD have been.. can't see some that are in that "top 5" getting past them!

Here, here! I second that as so they should be right at the top of any poll. If it had not been for Lennon & McCartney, and Harrison, there would be no British rock songs.Beatles Forever!!!Because Jagger & Richards were only inspired to write when Lennon & McCartney practically finished of I wanna Be Your Man right in front them.

Yup, that's right, This is one of those rare incidents where the majority got it right! Lennon/McCartney is the best songwriting team in the history of song writing. Not only that, but for three songwritng geniuses to come together in one band, as the Beatles did, including George Harrison, is something of a miracle. Beatles forever!!!
