Lennon Birthday Marked By Peace Events

The anniversary of what would have been John Lennon's 66th birthday next month (09OCT06) will be celebrated with two international peace events organised by the star's widow Yoko Ono.
The former Beatles legend will be honoured with an 'Imagine Peace Tower', which is being constructed in Reykjavik, Iceland, while the LennonOno Grant For Peace will give out prizes of $50,000 (GBP30,000) to Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Centre for Constitutional Rights, in a bid to support causes close to the heart of the late icon.
Ono says, "These groups look beyond today's conflicts and destruction and envision a positive future for our society, while working selflessly and tirelessly towards establishing a more peaceful environment for our planet.
"They are strong representatives of the many groups who are working in the same direction, today. They need and deserve all of our support and respect.
"Each one of us was born at this time, not by chance, but to fulfil a mission. Our work is not yet done.
"I know that John's spirit will be joining us on that day, October 9th, in Reykjavik and I look forward to seeing you there to celebrate this exciting day. WAR IS OVER, if you want it. I love you."

I will be sending this link to all my friends in loving memory of John on his Birthday. I was at the concert in 1966 at Shea Stadium in New York. Who could have IMAGINED back then the impact he would have on the music world and the affect of his legondary song for all time. We all pray that someday his vision will come true. My respect and admiration go to his wife for keeping his dream alive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEOkxRLzBf0Send this link to everyone you know for John's birthday message to be kept alive.

First Off I want to Say "God Bless John Lennon" I was born in 1961 and grew up with the BeaTles and Loved every moment with them...I also grew up in a city in Arkansas with a SAC Base which contained B-52 bomber's and near by you would hear the roar of the planes every night and wonder is this it WWWIII...with the Vietnam war going on I was frieghtened...I was in the 3rd grade and wanted to make a point so I found one of my dad's old army Jacket's sewed a Large peace sign on the back and went out and bought and POW/MIA bracelet my first one came home after only-I believe 2 days in an WOODEN box draped with the American Flag pretty deep for an 3rd grader but the next day my oldest Sister and myself went out and bought a new bracelet and to this day I have "IT" my MIA Bracelet it reads Capt. Peter Hesford USAF MIA 3-21-68 he was promoted to MAJOR...I visited the "WALL" in DC last year...it moved me to tears but I felt in some small way John was there with me giving me the courage to etch the name on-to the piece of paper...I only wish he were alive to help me out with my quest to find out for sure what happened to my "Friend"...I always said if John were alive he would help me find the Truth... Because I have paper work that states that Major Peter D. Hesford made it out alive from His crash {F-4 Fantom Jet} and the report was from the DOD 1991 it is on the web site for anyone to read....I just need answers I was commited to this Man & Peace ] {Peace for all from an 3rd grader wanting to make a differance in the world from listenig to someone I loved and believed in very much and still do...God bless you John Lennon....You are my Hero...Peace and Love Angie Lexington,VA {USA} I now wear my Imagine necklace and faces of John cuff bracelet with other Jewelry that I never take off...in Honor of an Other kind of Battle Hero who was not afraid to stand up for everyones rights not just his own but a country that we was not even and citizen of Yet...That is what makes our Country so Damn Great and makes me so proud to be an American, but sad in a way that I will never have the answers that I need to close an chapter from my childhood...from something that I believed in and fought for so stongly as hard as an 3rd and 4th grader all the way through school could...Till next time remember to always show lots of Peace and Love Angie ;+)

When in 1969 i saw John Lennon and Yoko One in a bag which they called bagism i believe him to be out of his head.I was 16 at the time and was and am a still a beatle fan.But now much older i understand what he was trying to do!Who cares if he was the worlds biggest fool!If it got into peopes heads to stop war then so be it.As a great writer, a spiritual person who wanted peace, i am glad to see him remembered. He should be!Also it is a great honour to see the royal mail printing beatles stamps in recognition of a influencial music legends next year!

Such peace events for the late and great John Lennon should be televised on BBC 1, since not every one will be able to get to Iceland or for that matter any other places where there maybe events held.Long live the spirits of John Lennon and George Harrison.Lots of love to Yoko, Cynthia, Sean, Julian. Also to Olivia and Dhani. May we finally see peace all around the world, even if it means banging a few world leaders' heads together. As the late and great George Harrison once said "if all the world leaders practiced Transcendental Meditation there would no war and no talk of war".
