Lennon Biopic -- A Crowd Of People Turn Away
British director Sam Taylor-Wood's Nowhere Boy , about the early life of John Lennon (The Beatles are not mentioned in the movie but Lennon's music is featured) is apparently going nowhere at the U.K. box office, Britain's Guardian newspaper reported today (Wednesday). The film has taken in less than $1.3 million after three weeks in release. The newspaper observed that the film had received solid reviews and received numerous nominations for the BAFTA awards, Britain's equivalent of the Oscars. "But the paying public seems less enthused than the British Academy voters," the newspaper commented. "Why the poor returns?" another newspaper, the London Daily Telegraph asked. "Simple advertising and marketing budgets for British films cannot compete with those of Hollywood movies."
