Legendary Eric Sykes Remembered By Comedy Luminaries

Eric Sykes has passed away at the age of 89 and a number of British film and television stars have been paying tribute to the man they considered to be a legend. Sykes made his name as a respected comedy writer and performer, with a career that spanned over 50 years and included collaborations with a number of comedians such as Spike Milligan, Tony Hancock and Peter Sellers..

Sir Bruce Forsyth has said, in his tribute, via the Bbc, "Eric was one of the greats of comedy in this country. He was universally loved here. He was just one of the funniest men ever in comedy. What a shame so many young people would never have seen him in his prime. He was very lovely, very gentle and not a loud-mouth. He was a very clever writer. His scripts were amazing." The Monty Python comic Michael Palin said "He was one of the nicest, most decent men in the business and one of a kind. No one else could do what Eric could do. To me, he was a great inspiration, both as a writer and performer."

A number of stars also took to their Twitter accounts when the news broke of Eric's death. Stephen Fry posted a message saying "Oh no! Eric Sykes gone? An adorable, brilliant, modest, hilarious, innovative and irreplaceable comic master. Farewell, dear, dear man." And the League of Gentleman performer Mark Gatiss said "The wonderful Eric Sykes has left us. A giant of comedy and a gentleman - funny to his very core. RIP."
