Legendary Bob Dylan Guitar Worth $1 Million - If It's Proved Real
Rolling Stone magazine reports that Dylan's attorney Orin Snyder claims that Bob owns the guitar still, a statement reading "Bob has possession of the electric guitar he played at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. He did own several other Stratocaster guitars that were stolen from him around that time, as were some handwritten lyrics." Yet that hasn't dissuaded Peterson, who last year got Pbs' 'History Detectives' in to verify the piece that she had. Vintage instrument-specialist Andy Babuik took a look at it at Pbs' request and commented "The more I looked, the more they matched. The rosewood fingerboard has distinct lighter strips. Wood grain is like a fingerprint. I'm 99.9 per cent sure it's the guitar - my credibility is on the line here."
The episode that shows the guitar airs on July 17th and, if found to be real, would be worth $1 million. But is it Peterson's to sell should she want to? Not so, apparently. "It's his guitar until he makes an affirmative act to give it to someone else or sell it," according to lawyer Josh Grier. "I think if they put it up to auction, Dylan has a claim to the proceeds. If he finds out beforehand, he might be able to stop from from doing it." Peterson apparently wrote to Dylan's management asking for him to waive such a right, but he refused.
