Lee Dewyze - Lee Dewyze Refused To Present American Idol Trophy?
Lee Dewyze, the 25-year-old rock singer and last year's American Idol champion, refused to present the trophy to Scotty Mccreery during the season ten finale, according to the show's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. Lee Dewyze appeared at the Nokia Theatre during Wednesday evening's final but Lythgoe claims he declined a more prominent role.
While fans of DeWyze tweeted angry responses to the singer's minor appearance, Lythgoe explained on his Twitter page, "I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn't present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he'd been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy". DeWyze objected to the producer's claims, suggesting he wasn't really asked to be part of the finale, tweeting, "Well done Scotty! Secondly, just for the record. I was not asked to be involved in the Finale. It wasn't until about 2 minutes before they announced that Nigel had approached me and asked if he could "borrow" me for a second". The 25-year-old, who defeated Crystal Bowersox in last year's final, said he didn't feel a "second jump on stage" was appropriate, adding, "I appreciate American Idol, and the opportunity it has given me. And the people who have made that show possible. I am not angry, or bitter etc".
Lee Dewyze released his debut single, a cover of U2's 'Beautiful Day', on 27th May 2010. His first major-label album 'Live It Up' hit shelves in November 2010 and sold 39,000 copies in its first week, debuting at 19 on the Billboard 200.
