Abc - Lauryn Hill Prosecuted For Tax Dodge Scandal

Former Fugees singer Lauryn Hill was yesterday in front of federal prosecutors in a New Jersey court, where she was charged with three counts of "knowingly and wilfully fail(ing) to make an income tax return to the IRS," according court documents. Following the court's decision Hill took to her Tumblr to share her side of the story, telling fans and onlookers that she never cheated on her taxes; she went "underground."

In a report from ABC, Hill said that she withdrew from the public sphere to heal and grow away from oppressive forces that had manipulated her in the past. Whilst she didn't name any names, she did mention that she did pay her taxes before going underground.

She went on to say, through her Tumblr account, that; "Obviously, the danger I faced was not accepted as reasonable grounds for deferring my tax payments, as authorities, who despite being told all of this, still chose to pursue action against me, as opposed to finding an alternative solution," adding that she always intended to rectify the situation.

If convicted she could end up facing up to a year in prison or a $100,000 fine for each of three counts she is held on. She is scheduled to appear before a judge again on June 29.
