Lauren Scruggs Responsive After Losing Hand In Propeller
Model Lauren Scruggs is responsive and making a slow recovery after she accidently walked into the propeller of a small plane, losing her hand in the process. Scruggs edits an online fashion magazine and has also worked in the wardrobe department of the hit TV show 'Gossip Girl', starring Blake Lively.
According to ABC News, Scruggs, 23, suffered horrific injuries after she exited a single-engine plane on Saturday evening (December 2, 2011) and walked straight into the propeller - slicing the left side of her face, shoulder and left hand. Despite initial fears, she is now in a stable condition in Dallas' Parkland Hospital. Speaking on Good Morning America this week, her father Jeff explained, "Yesterday was a good day, there was a lot of really positive progress. They took out her tube in the afternoon. She didn't speak right away . I said Lauren will you say 'hi' to Daddy, and she goes, hi". The model underwent numerous surgeries over the weekend, but the extent of injuries to her brain are still unknown, according to a family spokesperson. Scruggs, who founded the fashion website Lolo, was reportedly getting a birds-eye view of the Christmas lights from the small passenger plane shortly before the accident. Though it was dark outside, investigators are still trying to establish why Lauren didn't see the propeller but her family suggest she may have briefly turned her back to thank the pilot for the trip.
Scruggs interviews celebrities for her fashion blog and often takes fans on a guided tour of the Gossip Girl set. Her father said because of trauma to her head, Lauren is facing a long road to recovery, but added, "What she'd tell you is her relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing in her life. Even though she cannot talk I know she's relying on Jesus right now".
