Laura Marling - Laura Marling Ditched Songs For Second Album
Laura Marling decided to get rid of a whole album's worth of music when creating her second LP.
Laura Marling ditched a whole set of songs while recording her second album.
The Brit award winning singer recently released her second LP 'A Creature I Don't Know', the follow up to 'Alas I Cannot Swim', and she admits there were songs left over she was tempted to used, but changed her mind when she began to work on it.
She said: "They were left over from the previous album and when I returned to them they felt like old clothes.
"On that record I'd tried to explore this idea of stern femininity, which was a cause I thought I could get behind, but it isn't to be confused with feminism."
Now, the 21-year-old star is keen to explore the theme of "choice" in her work, in addition to womanhood.
She added: "I felt like I had something to say, and that I'd made my point, although on the new album I'm still fascinated by womanhood and I think I will be for ever, especially something like the endless conflict between motherly figures, innocent/angelic figures and sexual ones.
"For this record I was also interested in choice, how we have so much, how the wrong choice is often the easiest to make. And something else: the capacity, in perfect tipping balance, of both men and women for horrific behaviour - and I include myself in that."
