Latino Actress Lupe Ontiveros Dies At The Age Of 69
Lupe Ontiveros passed away last night (July 26th 2012) at the age of 69.
Reports suggest that the actress was suffering liver cancer at the time of her death. Her friend and co-star on biographical drama 'Selena' Jacob Vargas was at her bedside as she passed on and made sure he took to Twitter to inform fans. 'My friend Lupe Ontiveros just passed away', he wrote. 'May you rest in peace. Thank you for your great contribution to film and TV. You will be missed.'
The Mexican-American actress is best known for her part as Yolanda Saldivar, a convicted killer, in 'Selena' but has appeared in a variety of hit films and TV shows including sitcoms such as 'Reba' and 'Who's The Boss', drama 'Desperate Housewives', crime/ action flick 'Charlie's Angels' and romantic comedy 'As Good As It Gets'.
She has won various awards including a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for starring alongside America Ferrera ('Ugly Betty') in the comedy drama film 'Real Women Have Curves', an ALMA Award for appearing on the TV series 'Veronica's Closet' and even received an Emmy nomination for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series after her guest appearance on 'Desperate Housewives'.
Ontiveros was one of the most iconic Latino actresses of all time, opening doors for many stars from her culture including superstar Jennifer Lopez ('Out of Sight'), Salma Hayek ('Once Upon a Time in Mexico') and America Ferrera. She leaves behind a husband and three children.
