Andrews Sisters - Last Surviving Andrews Sisters Star Dead At 94

Patty Andrews passed away on Wednesday (30Jan13) at her home in Northridge, California.

With her late sisters LaVerne and Maxene, the singer recorded a string of hits, like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B and I'll Be with You in Apple Blossom Time, which helped turn the girls into the sweethearts of U.S. troops serving overseas during World War Two.

As well as recording their own hits, Patty and her sisters also performed with big band leaders Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Jimmy Dorsey, Bob Crosby and Desi Arnaz.

And they also teamed up on record with the likes of Bing Crosby, Al Jolson and Jimmy Durante.

The sisters also tasted movie success at Universal Pictures, appearing in comedies like Buck Privates and the classic The Road to Rio, opposite Bing Crosby and Bob Hope.

The Andrews Sisters continued to perform together up until LaVerne's death in 1967. A sibling feud led to Patty and Maxene parting ways, but they reunited in 1974 for Broadway show, Over Here!

The musical ran for a year and then both sisters went solo, and Patty became a staple in Las Vegas.

Maxene Andrews died in 1995.

Patty's first husband, Martin Melcher, became Doris Day's manager and husband. She wed her second husband, the Andrews Sisters' pianist and later manager Walter Weschler, in 1952.
