Lara Logan Recovering From Sexual Assault In Cairo

CBS News correspondent Lara Logan was beaten and sexually assaulted in Cairo's Tahrir Square on Friday as she was covering the aftermath of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's resignation, CBS disclosed on Tuesday. The network said that a group of 200 people who were "whipped into a frenzy" pulled Logan away from her crew and attacked her. In an interview with today's (Wednesday) Los Angeles Times , Columbia School of Journalism professor Judith Matloff praised Logan for disclosing the nature of the attack. "It's a pretty brave thing to come out and say that you've been sexually assaulted," she said. "Generally, female correspondents do not come out and talk about it because they worry that they won't get sent on assignments again." The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said that 52 journalists were attacked and 76 were imprisoned during the turmoil in Egypt. One video journalist, Ahmad Mohamed Mahmoud of the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ta'awun, was killed.
