Lanvin To Release Childrenswear

Lanvin is to debut a childrenswear line in November.

The luxury fashion house - headed by eccentric designer Alber Elbaz - will launch a collection of 25 pieces as part of their spring/summer 2012 outing, with executive vice-president of the brand Thierry Andretta touting its "luxury" credentials.

He told WWD: "It's a way to translate the universe of Lanvin ready-to-wear to the world of kids. We really want to stay in the luxury world."

The collection will aim at girls between the ages of four and 10 and include dresses, T-shirts, coats and accessories.

It will be sold in 80 Lanvin stores around the world but prices have not yet been confirmed.

The junior collection will debut at the same time as the resort collection, which will be unveiled in the summer and placed on sale in November.

A number of high-end brands have gone into expensive childrenswear in recent years, including Marni, Dior and Chloe.

Alber recently succumbed to making a more accessibly priced range for H&M, because he wanted to give women of all backgrounds the chance to wear his clothes.

He said: "It was an exercise for me to understand what is the relationship between high fashion and fast fashion. 95 per cent of women cannot afford Lanvin, so let them have a taste. It's like if I was living in a palace and opened some doors and said, 'Have tea with me, taste the food.' It's not about giving away something that belonged to someone else; it's about sharing."
