Lady Gaga - Lady Gaga Rejected $1 Million Offer To Perform In Support Of Republican Mitt Romney
Pop superstar Lady Gaga rejected a $1 million (£625,000) offer to give U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney a big boost in the run-up to the election last year (12) by performing at the Republican National Convention.
Court documents unveiled this week (begs01Apr13) reveal the Poker Face hitmaker had been approached by organisers of the Republican Party's pre-election gathering to hit the stage at the Tampa, Florida event, even though she's one of the most outspoken gay rights advocates and a fan of Romney's Democratic rival Barack Obama.
Representatives at the American Action Network, the group behind the convention, even tried to sway Gaga by offering to donate $150,000 (£93,750) to a domestic violence shelter in exchange for her participation.
The details emerged in legal papers submitted to the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. as part of a legal battle between the American Action Network and entertainment vendor Cater America over a scrapped Lynyrd Skynyrd concert, which was axed ahead of the Rnc due to the threat of Hurricane Isaac in late August (12).
