Lady Gaga Debuts Princess Diana Track At U.k. Show

Lady GaGa used the first U.K. show of her current world tour to debut a track written in honour of late British royal Diana, Princess Of Wales.

The pop superstar took to the stage at Twickenham Stadium in Richmond upon Thames for the first of her British Born This Way Ball shows on Saturday (08Sep12) and she courted controversy by playing a new song called Princess D.I.E. - a reference to the late royal who died in a car crash in France in 1997.

Before playing the track, Gaga spoke of her admiration for Prince William's mother, telling the crowd, "Since I was a very young girl, the people's Princess was the most important person in me and my mother's life. I swore if I ever had an audience like this in London I would take a moment to appreciate her. This song is called Princess Di - D-i-e... I predict controversy, but I don't care... Let's take a moment to appreciate her presence and what she means."

She went on to dedicate the track to another tragic female star - Amy Winehouse, who died last year (11) at the age of 27.

Gaga added, "Losing Amy was a tragedy, let's sing it for her."

After the show, Gaga shared her appreciation with fans on Twitter.com, writing, "Twickenham, I'm not even sure what to say. I'll never forget tonight. London you were the fairest of the ball. Now that was f**king fun."
